What is Upland?

At its heart, Upland is a property-trading, city-building metaverse designed for players to explore cities, collect properties, and meet other Uplanders. But saying that is like saying the Empire State Building is just a skyscraper.

More than anything, Upland is a game where you buy, sell, and trade property. Uplanders explore cities to mint rare and unique property NFTs which can then be used to complete property collections or sold on the open marketplace. Our vision is to make Upland an immersive experience that goes well beyond becoming a real estate mogul. City tours, scavenger hunts, treasure hunts, hidden pinatas, and live property auctions are just a few adventures waiting for you in Upland.

Traditional games are unfair to the gamer. You're forced to invest your time, money, and energy into a platform that gives nothing back. You may just be playing to win, but you're also paying to play.

Upland seeks to shatter this mold with its "Play-to-Earn" gaming model. Players transact using the native game currency, UPX, to mint a variety of NFTs which are fully tradable on the open marketplace for both USD and UPX. While players can use USD to purchase and sell NFTs in the secondary market, UPX is the only currency used to mint most NFTs in Upland, which adds tremendous utility to the token. Thanks to our partnership with Tilia Inc., KYC'd Uplanders can sell their digital assets directly for U.S. dollars! This makes Upland one of the few games in the world where players have actually earned real-world money. To date, players have earned more than $1.5M playing Upland!

What is UPX?

UPX is the primary currency in Upland, and is used for a wide variety of purposes, such as minting properties, purchasing rare and unique NFTs in the Upland store, and powering your in-game activities such as sends, marketplace transactions, and more! The tremendous utility of UPX serves as the bedrock of the Upland Economy.

How it Works

Players can initiate an UPX transfer by navigating to another player's profile and selecting the "Send UPX" button. It's also now possible to search for specific players' profiles directly in the Upland App. Just open up the "Quick Menu" and select the "Player Search" icon to open up the Player Search feature.

After selecting a player, click on the "Send UPX" button on their profile page to initiate the transfer process. Then, input the amount of UPX you wish to transfer; it will clearly state how much you will pay prior to the transaction. Once the details are confirmed, click "Send UPX" to complete the transfer. The recipient will be notified once the transaction is complete.

UPX Transfers Mechanics & Restrictions

Upland status & Account Age

UPX Transfers will only be available to players who are Uplanders and above, meaning that Visitors will not have the ability to both send or receive UPX. Players who reach Uplander will receive access to UPX transfers pending Identity Verification.

Identity Verification

All players who wish to send or receive UPX will be required to verify their identity with our partners at Tilia. Any attempt to use the UPX transfer feature without ID verification will prompt the player to complete this process.

Transfer Limits & Cooldowns

All acquired UPX (via marketplace, earnings, or store purchase) is subject to a 60 day cooldown period before it becomes transferrable. For example, if a player currently has 100,000 UPX in their account, but 50k of that UPX was purchased within the past 60 days, they will only have a maximum of 50k UPX (100k - 50k) available for transfer. Additionally, the minimum amount of UPX a player can transfer is 20 UPX.

Marketplace Fee

As with all Upland transactions, UPX transfers will be subject to the 10% marketplace transaction fee. 5% of this fee will be paid on the part of the sender, while the remaining 5% will be paid by the receiver. In other words, if Player A wants to send 1000 UPX to Player B, Player A will pay 1050 UPX and Player B will receive 950 UPX.

2FA & Captcha

All UPX transfer transactions will also be subject to 2-Factor Authentication and Captcha to ensure the highest level of security of users. We highly recommend enabling 2FA if you plan on using the UPX transfer mechanic.

These restrictions are meant to ensure safe transactions for all of our players during the testing phase of this new feature. As always, these restrictions will be subject to change pending the outcomes of this pilot program.

Is UPX a Cryptocurrency?

Upland's ecosystem is built entirely on the EOS blockchain, meaning roughly all actions within the game are real transactions which are then pushed to and recorded by the blockchain. Despite this, UPX is not a cryptocurrency by definition. Although the token lives on the blockchain, it is strictly a utility token used in-game to acquire NFTs. This means that UPX is not tradable outside of the Upland ecosystem. All in-game NFTs are, however, fully tradable.

Earning UPX

All players start with a small amount of UPX to help them acquire their first properties. Each property in Upland generates UPX passively at a rate of 14.7% of the base mint price. This means that if you mint a property for 100,000 UPX, it will generate 14,700 UPX over the next year. This rate can also be boosted by placing your properties in collections.

Players can also earn UPX by trading their properties and NFTs on the open marketplace once they achieve Uplander Status. Many players are able to mint properties and NFTs at their initial price and then sell them for a markup on the open marketplace; especially if they are a part of exclusive collections.

In addition, each time a player "sends" to your property, you will earn the fee that the user paid to complete their send; usually between 5 UPX and 100 UPX. Asking veterans for sends to your properties is a popular way for new users to start accumulating UPX. Send fees make owning properties in highly trafficked areas, like near airports, very valuable.

Acquiring NFTs with UPX

Even though UPX is not tradable outside of the game, that does not mean that your NFTs will not be. The future NFT Portal (currently in beta) will allow players to port their assets over to other worlds, blockchains (Ethereum, FLOW, and others), and ecosystems! This means that players can leverage the Upland marketplace to acquire exclusive NFTs, and subsequently sell them on a decentralized marketplace like OpenSea or Rarible. All NFTs will be tradable within the game via future Metaventures (player-owned businesses). Property NFTs are already fully tradable (for UPX or USD) within the Upland ecosystem and support for other NFT types will be extended in the near future.

Players can purchase UPX in the Upland Store using a Credit Card, PayPal, or Cryptocurrencies (Web-Only) by clicking on the "Get UPX" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

The NFT-to-USD Program

To date, players have earned over $1.8M US Dollars by trading properties in Upland! This is all facilitated by our NFT-to-USD program, courtesy of our partners at Tilia Pay. This program enables players to list any property directly for US Dollars, meaning when another player purchases your property you'll have US Dollars deposited into your account instead of UPX. While NFT-to-USD only currently supports property sales, it will be expanding to support all types of NFTs in the Upland metaverse, including Legits, Block Explorers, and more!

All players who level up to Uplander will automatically be added to the NFT-to-USD program. Players can learn more about how it works, as well as terms and restrictions here.

Leveraging UPX to Earn USD

While you can buy and sell properties on the open marketplace for USD, the only way to acquire fresh properties is to mint them using UPX. Many players capitalize on new city releases by stacking UPX and minting several fresh properties at release. Players often take these properties and list them on the secondary market for USD, thereby turning their UPX holdings into real-world dollars.

UPX to Acquire NFTs

As the metaverse develops, there will be a variety of NFT-types that are only acquirable using UPX. This includes but is not limited to, Upland Legits (Collectible 3D Objects), Structure Ornaments, Block Explorers, and more! The true utility in UPX is the ability to acquire rare and unique NFTs, and subsequently, trade those on the open marketplace. Alternatively, players may opt to hold them and put them to use in player homes, galleries, and more.

NFT-to-USD Terms & Conditions

All participants in the NFT-to-USD Beta Program must agree to the following Terms & Conditions:

1. Agreement to the terms affirms that the player understands that this program is in Beta. This means that service is susceptible to interruption and certain mechanics and restrictions are subject to change.

2. Players can sell up to 20 properties at a time with a $10,000 maximum on individual transactions.

3. Players will be unable to purchase properties worth more than $100 until their account has been active for at least 14 days.

4. Properties are unable to be sold via NFT-to-USD for a fixed period following the acquisition of the property (through either minting or secondary marketplace purchase.) See below for restrictions by Upland Status.
